CD Booklets and Back Panels

Traditional CD packaging is a plastic jewel case with a booklet/insert inserted into the front piece of the case and a back panel inserted into the back and spines of the case. Packaging options have changed but the terminology has stayed the same. A vinyl sleeve can have a booklet/insert, a multi-CD case should have two back panels.

Selection of the print process, and quality, depends on quantity.

A high quality press run with machined cutting and folding, is subject to significant set up costs. It usually does not make sense to incur these charges for short printing runs. The trade off is quality. A press run will produce accurate color and sharp graphics and text. A printer also has a large selection of paper weights and multi- page binding capability.

The One-Off CD Shop can print color inserts and back panels in small quantities. There is a limited color matching capability and printing on both sides of the page can present ink drying problems. (We print single-sided, folded booklets.) However, for fewer than 100 copies on a fast turn, the quality is quite acceptable. We print on heavy stock that accepts a sharp crease or is pre-perforated for back panel spines. Taking your art work to the local copy shop is not an acceptable alternative. Normal paper weights do not stay in the booklet/panel slots and are difficult to fold and insert properly. Back panels must be perforated properly or they will be next to impossible to insert into the case.
